Domestic Abuse

Dorset Women”s Outreach Project (DWOP)

is a woman led community based service, which provides confidential, independent support and information to women survivors of domestic violence. We run monthly outreach services at Weymouth Housing Advice Centre. Safe housing is the key to independence for women and their children affected by domestic violence. Working in partnership with the Local Authority to prevent homelessness and enable women to stay safely in their own homes services include options for maintaining safety and security, civil law remedies, securing property as well as help with finance and budgeting.

DWOP offer a locally delivered service, which allows women to define their own needs for safety and the services they require and aims to be sufficiently flexible to meet women”s individual needs. We are an inclusive service, which advocates on behalf of our client group at both local and national level in order to ensure equality of opportunity to a group who are both socially, emotionally and financially disadvantaged.

DWOP offers the following services:
Freephone Telephone Helpline – 0800 58 77 480 10am-1pm Mon – Fri
Advocacy – negotiating legal, health, housing, social services, education and police organisations is not an easy task for women traumatized and undermined by abuse. The advocacy service provides help for women to get their needs met with other agencies.
Meetings – for women in crisis. Allowing women to begin to name their experiences of abuse and to disentangle the issue of blame and responsibility is a key starting point for many women freeing themselves from the abuser”s violence.
Resettlement- for women leaving local refuges or relocating in to the community.
Access to Refuges online to find available refuge spaces nationally.
Counselling Service – Provided by a volunteer counsellor
Monthly Drop In at The Mulberry and Outlooks Children”s Centres.
